Tuesday evening I attended the launch party of a new vintage shop in Toronto: Boutique Monique! There’s something satisfying about finding, what I call, ‘hidden treasures’ when shopping. Although beautiful treasures can be found in almost all shops, it is the vintage shops that hide those treasures; waiting for the right person to find it, take it home and cherish it.
Sometimes these treasures come with a luxe label attached, and sometimes the designer is unknown – either way, when it comes to vintage, the fun is in making it your own! I found so many wonderful pieces in Boutique Monique! Ones that I could wear as is, and others that I would want to re-create into something fresh. Vintage shopping is never predictable!
While exploring the many rooms that Boutique Monique is made of, I was able to mingle with friends, while sipping on champagne and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres + cupcakes. I’ve come to realize that these three things are a fashion industry staple – shhh: I kinda love it!
One of the things I love the most about parties held within a boutique, is the opportunity to hang out with the owner (+ employees) in an atmosphere that differs to shopping. It was such a pleasure meeting and chatting with Monique. She had the ability to make us all laugh and feel at home within her adorable St. Clair Ave. shop!
As soon as I saw the dress above I instantly fell in love – a common feeling among the guest of the party! As it turns out, it was Monique’s wedding dress!! To have your own wedding dress on display within your own shop, and have everyone swooning over it – how amazing is that?! If you name the right price, you may be lucky enough to convince Monique to let you take it home….maybe!
The best part of the evening, for me, was admiring all the intricate details on the garments. So much beauty. So much talent. So much life. Sometimes I honestly felt I was in another era. How beautiful is the detail on the dress above?! It’s enough to make my heart flutter!
So, grab your friends, grab your family and make a trip to Boutique Monique to see if you can find yourself some treasure! I highly recommend it. Although I’ve mostly photographed women’s clothes & accessories, there are heaps of items for the gentlemen in your life too!
