Last Thursday Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong showed their spring summer 2013 Greta Constantine Collection at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s Distillery District. Anticipation of this ss13 collection has been high ever since these Toronto based designers hosted a Midsummer Affair in August (see post here), followed by a surprise display of their 5 Collection at Toronto Fashion Week this past October. About a month after fashion week, the day to see what Greta Constantine created for spring/summer 2013 finally arrived. Conclusion: Kirk and Stephen did not disappoint!
Monochrome was the colour pallet, and minimalistic was the style. Navy, followed by Black, ending in White created a simplistic yet powerful statement for the brand. The Greta Constantine Collection proved that embellishments aren’t always needed and bright colours for spring are not mandatory – as long as the details are captivating and designs solid, a striking collection can be created. I was in awe over the pleating, draping, exposed darts, cutouts, slim lines and wide skirts! Oh, and the backs…oh the backs..they were amazing! (for pictures of them, come have fun with me on Instagram…some are posted, more are coming). Also, the materials were just as captivating. From their signature jersey, to microfiber, to eyelet embroidery, to horsetail braid – they had me on the edge of my seat..it took great strength to not reach out and touch the fabrics as they went by (haha, seriously wanted to, but for the record NEVER would. That would be so horrible. Good thing I was able to go backstage after for a closer look).
Enough talk, let’s take a peak at my favourite looks from the Greta Constantine spring summer 2013 collection:

The Greta Constantine show was held at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s Distillery District, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect venue. The ambiance was so perfect for the show. It had class, yet had edge. It was open, yet felt secretive like an unknown cave.
Before and after the show, us guests mingled about, enjoying the always appreciated glacéau smartwater and the ever so delicious cocktails made my Stoli (Stolichnaya® Premium vodka) called “The Greta”, “The Kirk” and “The Stephen” – how appropriate! Here are some images:
