Mikhael Kale at Toronto Fashion Week

Mikhael Kale (in the bottom picture with one of his models) showed his spring summer 2013 collection at the Corkin Gallery in Toronto’s Distillery District. With this week consisting of numerous runway shows, it was nice to step away for a while and view fashion in a different way. Mikhael Kale’s models stood on platforms in the gallery where guests could mingle, enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, all while viewing this latest collection. Unlike runway shows (which I do highly enjoy!), we had the chance to get right up to the garments and examine closely, the textiles, the fine details, the finishes – Mikhael even allowed his guests to touch the garments to get the full experience.

The garments in Mikhael’s collection were indeed a piece of art; inspired by photographer Nigel Scott’s ‘Conversations with Blue’ whose work is shown in the Corkin Gallery (how fitting). The textiles had a tie dyed look, in shades of blue, which were very captivating. Each look had it’s own unique touch, and my favourite was the lace over the pale tie dyed print (seen in the second last picture from the bottom).
