When I was putting together this outfit, I really wanted to wear my chambray dress but it was too cold outside. Clearly, that didn’t stop me – it only gave me a challenge. “How can I wear a spring-summer dress during winter?”

I ended up digging my warm tights out of my drawer, and slipped them on underneath my dress. Then, I went on a hunt for a jacket that would look great. This was a little tricky at first, but I narrowed it down to two options: my black wool coat, or my cobalt blue wool coat.

The black would have tied in really well with my tights and ankle booties, balancing the whole look.

The cobalt blue blended into my chambray dress seamlessly – not too well that the dress disappeared, but not just enough that they complimented each other.

While both are perfectly great options, I clearly chose to go with the cobalt (especially once I saw how well my blue hat worked into the equation – by chance, it had blues that matched both my dress and my coat).

I love wearing my clothes year-round and not “saving” them for a certain season – so this was the perfect solution.

I hope this inspires you to pull some of your off season clothes out of your closet and try styling them for the current season. This works especially well to create a transitional wardrobe – taking you from one season into the next!
