Last week, I ventured to Philip Spark‘s studio for a tour and preview of his Fall 2013 collection. Set up at the front of the studio were 10 Judys (which is what we Canadians call the dressmakers dress from), five of which were styled from the Philip Sparks womenswear collection, and five of which were styled from the Philip Sparks menswear collection. I’ve featured mostly womenswear, because that’s my forte; however, I couldn’t resist showing you a menswear jacket in the last photo because, well, it captivated me.
When I arrived, Philip took me on a tour of the studio. It was great to see where the clothes were designed, drafted, cut and sewn. The workspace is a designers dream; full of amazing equipment.
After the tour, I browsed through the fall 2013 Philip Sparks collection, while Philip talked about his inspiration. He showed me a vintage truck full of old fabric swatches; which served as his inspiration for the collection. I was amazed at how well he was able to source and create modern fabrics with vintage characteristics.
My favourite pieces from the collection are the gathered skirt, swing jacket, sleeveless blouse and patch-work shirt; all shown in the collage above. Most of the Philip Sparks collection is now available in stores, and will be available on the website in the next week or so.
